A few weeks ago, I received a newsletter from Greenpeace Philippines that led me to watch this vid from
their post on Victoria's Secret as a Detox Leader.
There was apparently an investigation conducted by Greenpeace where they found hazardous chemicals in a Victoria's Secret undies in high levels, and identified it as hormone-disrupting phalates. Little did I know that even textiles and garments can contain such chemicals. Well it's possible since textile coloring relies on chemicals too, this makes sense. But now because of public pressure, Limited Brands, the company who owns Victoria's Secret and La Senza lingerie, finally made a move and promised that they will make their products free from harmful chemicals by 2020 which is good news (but we have to wait until then).
In line with this, Zara also announced last year the brand will go toxic-free by 2020, and removing the worst chemicals such as PFCs sooner, by the end of 2015. Read complete article here.
Greenpeace also calls on to brands such as Calvin Klein and GAP who seemingly continue to ignore this appeal on reducing the levels of chemicals in products.
I'm blogging this to support Greenpeace for their cause to protect the environment and the health of human beings. And let me quote Greenpeace, "Fashion needn’t cost the earth."

Yes there are harful chemical from dye used in such products. 2020 is too far. Why they can't implement this now?

I don't buy from any of these brands but it's really crazy that they are allowing so many harmful chemicals in our clothes.
I haven't tried any of the product mentioned above but I have few bottle of VS cologne..I hope they do something to the problem
This is a great move but hopefully they will implement it soon. I wonder when they will also look at disposable diapers. I have read that the dye they are using it also produce such chemical that can yield dioxin. This is one reason I have switched to cloth diaper.

This is a wake up call to big companies not just only VS , Gap and CK. In our country, some colorants are prohibited, which you can check on FDA website.
I didn't realize that La Senza and Victoria's Secret were sister companies... and I have many La Senza underwear. The fit though is not that good considering the amount I had to pay even if their products were on sale. Kaya next time, I won't be lured kahit 70% off pa sila.
Who would think even clothes would have chemicals and toxins!!!
We really have such a long way to go to make the environment healthy and reverse the effects of industrialization. Using paper bags is a tiny grain of sand in comparison.

This is scary! And to think our skins absorb so much. I wonder why do they need to use harmful chemicals when they could use greener alternatives?
OMG talaga. It seems everything is toxic nowadays... I am just glad their are orgs like Greenpeace to promote awareness and be a voice for these giant conglomerates to listen and finally do something

I wonder the same thing, why start 2020 when they can start now? Wouldn't they kill their business because people may stay away from their brands until they go toxic-free?

Oh, I own one VC undie. How willI know if it is toxic-free?
I didn't know that even undies contained harmful chemicals. Although I personally am not affected by this because all my undies are made of just 100% cotton, I still do hope they'd be able to address this problem soon.
I feel bad that harmful chemicals are mixed with the products that we use daily. I hope these manufacturers would be conscious about their social responsibility and care for the environment and its effects on their consumers.

In the beginning of 2010, the company I worked for ( textile company) began to produce all Phthalate free inks for textiles. Its harmful kasi lalo na for kids. Strict sila when products are for kids.
